Mars to Make a Splash
at Oshkosh
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016 will welcome the Martin Mars for
the rst time. During the show the world’s largest ying water
bomber will be parked near the EAA Seaplane Base on Lake
Winnebago and it will also y several demonstrations throughout
the week. Only six Mars were made with just two left, both
operated by Coulson Flying Tankers of British Columbia, Canada.
“There aren’t many airplanes that have never been to Oshkosh,
but this is one of them, so this is both literally and guratively a
huge addition to this year’s line-up,” said Rick Larsen, EAA’s Vice
President of Communities and Member Programs.
The 64th annual Experimental Aircraft Association y-in
convention, will be held from July 25 to 31 at Wittman Regional
Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Alouette III for Cosford
A Belgian Navy Alouette III has been con rmed for the static
display at the RAF Cosford Air Show 2016. The Belgians operate
three of the type, all of which were acquired in 1971, for use as
supply aircraft for ships at sea. The Alouettes are due to be retired
and replaced by the NH90.
RAF Cosford Air Show 2016 takes place on June 19 and tickets
must be purchased in advance.
Strong German and Italian Presence for RIAT
Four Luftwaffe Euro ghters will appear at
RIAT this summer as part of a strong German
contingent.
Aircraft from each of the Luftwaffe’s
Euro ghter units – TLG 31, TLG 33, TLG
73, TLG 74 – will appear in the static at RAF
Fairford, where they will be joined by an
Airbus A400M from LTG 62, A310 MRTT,
Tornado ECR and a C-160D Transall.
The German Army is returning with its
Bölkow Bo 105P ying display. A second
example of the helicopter will feature on
the ground, alongside a Dornier Do 228,
EC135P2+ and a P-3C Orion from the
German Navy.
Italy will also be well represented at RIAT
with the con rmation of displays from the
Frecce Tricolori and a Euro ghter F-2000A
Typhoon from the Reparto Sperimentale Volo
(RSV). A second Typhoon will be on static
display. However, the highlight from the Italian
contribution is the UK ying debut of the
AgustaWestland HH-101A Caesar helicopter.
Based on the Merlin, the armed Caesar is
optimised to perform combat search and
rescue, special forces, medical evacuation
and slow-moving intercept missions.
Luftwaffe A400M for ILA
Visitors to ILA 2016 will be treated to a large-scale presence from the
Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) including the show debut of
the Luftwaffe’s new Airbus A400M transport aircraft.
Joining the A400M on display will be a Euro ghter, Tornado, A310
MRTT MedEvac, A319 and Transall C-160D. The Bundeswehr’s
rotary assets at ILA 2016 are set to include a CH-53, NH90, Tiger,
EC135, Sea Lynx and Sea King.
ILA 2016 takes place at the Berlin ExpoCenter Airport at Berlin
Schönefeld Airport from June 1 to 4.

The Yorkshire Air Museum’s superb recreation of Handley Page
Halifax III LV907 Friday The 13th was rolled out of its display hangar at
Elvington for a night photography shoot on March 18. The restoration,
based around a section of fuselage from Halifax II HR792, represents a
machine that ew 128 wartime sorties. Also on show at the event was
the attraction’s Douglas Dakota IV KN353, which ran its engines. http://www.
