Taking the other pair of fabrics
(print 3 and print 4) repeat
steps 6, 7 and 9 to make two (2)
more quarter-blocks in the second
colourway, using the same two (2)
contrast fabrics.11
Place one (1) of each quarter-
block as shown in Fig 7 and sew
a 2 in x 10 in grey strip between
them. Make two (2) half-blocks. Sew
a 2 in orange square between two (2)
2 in x 10 in grey strips to make one
long strip. Sew this between your half
blocks, matching the points (Fig 8).Fig 7Fig 812
Make another eight (8) blocks
following the previous steps,
and di erent combinations of fabrics.13
Lay out the nine (9) blocks in
three (3) rows of three (3).
Sew 2 in x 22 in grey strips
between each of the blocks in each
row (Fig 9).14
Sew two (2) 2 in orange
squares between three (3) 2 in
x 22 in grey strips to make one long
strip. Make another identical strip.
Sew these sashing rows between the
three block rows.15
Join the seven (7) 2 in x WOF
grey strips end to end to make
one long strip. From this, cut two
(2) strips measuring 70 in and two
(2) strips measuring 74 in. Sew
the 70 in strips to opposite sides of
the top. Add the 74 in strips to the
remaining sides.TECHNICAL TIP
In a quilt of many colours
and contrasts, it can
be di cult to settle on
a thread colour for the
quilting. Variegated thread
comes in a huge range of
colourways and can be a
brilliant choice for blending
between multiple colours
and varied fabrics.
