THE WORLD THIS MONTH

MISLAV ORSIC
(Dinamo Zagreb)
A few days after making his debut for
Croatia, he scored a hat-trick in the
Champions League against Atalanta.

MARTIN ODEGAARD
(Real Sociedad)
Scored twice and won three man-of-the-
match awards in his first four Liga games.

SERGINO DEST
(Ajax)
The Dutch-born USA international made
a composed Champions League
group-stage debut against Lille.

“You have to live with regrets in life. We were

in discussions with Messi when we bought

Fabregas because he was his friend”

Arsene Wenger reveals Arsenal came
close to signing a teenage Lionel Messi

Few teenagers have had more impressive
Champions League debuts than the
Norwegian striker, whose three goals for
Red Bull Salzburg in their 6-2 thrashing
of Genk set a host of new records.
The 19-year-old became the youngest
player in European club competition
history to score a first-half hat-trick. He
also became the first teen to score more
than once on his Champions League
debut since Manchester United’s Wayne
Rooney, against Fenerbahce, in 2004.
Before his Champions League debut,
Haland had notched 11 league goals in
seven games for defending Austrian
champions Salzburg – to follow the nine
he scored for Norway against Honduras
at this summer’s Under-20 World Cup.
Born in England when his father,
Norway midfielder Alf-Inge, was playing
for Leeds United, Erling junior has
expressed a desire to play for the
Yorkshire club. Signed by Salzburg
from Molde in January 2019 in what
increasingly looks like a sharp piece of
business, he will surely be moving on to
a major western European club sooner
rather than later.

LAUTARO MARTINEZ
(Internazionale)
The striker grabbed a first-half hat-trick
for a Messi-less Argentina in a 4-
friendly win over Mexico in San Antonio.

MOHAMMED MOHSE
(Yemen)
Scored a stunning overhead kick against
Saudi Arabia in a World Cup qualifier.

DIEGO BENEDETTO
(Marseille)
The former Boca Juniors striker scored
twice as his new club came from 2-
down to beat Monaco 4-3.
