Today’s pick

Giant’s Bread
Radio 4, 3pm
Agatha Christie produced
an enormous amount of
work but perhaps the least
well known are the six
novels she wrote under the
name of Mary Westmacott.
Described by her daughter
Rosalind Hicks as
“bittersweet stories about
love”, they are arguably
more revealing works than
those in her own name,
and offer an insight into
Christie’s relationships
with her family. Malcolm

McKay’s dramatisation of
her 1930 book Giant’s Bread
follows Vernon Deyre
(Tom Glenister, above),
who experiences an epiphany
at a concert. Ben Dowell
