tion enthusiasts of the ‘Fliegerwerft’
grouporganisedaveryspecialcele-
bration. To celebrate the eightieth
birthday of their Focke-Wulf 44 Stieglitz and
Messerschmitt108,morethanthirtyflying
classicstraveledtotheidyllicairfieldofOber-
Mörlen, north of Frankfurt. Another eight
examples of the Stieglitz, and four of the Bf
108, were among the aircraft attending.
StieglitzD-EMOFwasbuiltinSwedenat
AB Svenska Järnvägsverkstädernas Aero-
planavdelning (AB Swedish Railway Work-
shops Aeroplane Department) as a Sk12 in
1937andcametoGermanyinthemid-fif-
tiesafteritsserviceintheSwedishAir
Force.TodayitfliesinanauthenticFocke-
Wulf scheme from the thirties. Messer-
schmitt 108 D-EBFW was built in the same
year(serialnumber1561)inAugsburgand
istheoldestsurvivingexample.Afterres-
toration some years ago, the members of
the‘Fliegerwerft’grouppaintedtheir
‘Taifun’inthecoloursofthehistoric‘D-
IBFW’.In1938,theoriginaldarkblueD-
IBFW flew 44,000 kilometres through
NorthandSouthAmericaasacompany
demonstrator.
Amongtheguestaircraftwerenewlyre-
storedBf108D-EOIO andKlemm25ofthe
‘Flugsportgruppe Hanns Klemm’ from
Eutingen in southern Germany. It is one of
the oldest aircraft still flying in Germany.
