he Kyneton Aero Club planned to cel-
ebrateitsfiftiethanniversaryin2016
with an airshow but because of heavy
rainstheeventwaspostponedto2017.
With strong community backing, the
‘Spread Your Wings’ event on 23 April also
featuredacareersexpo,vintagecardisplay
andlocalproducefoodstalls.
Afteradelayedstartduetolowcloudthe
5,000 strong audience was treated to some
spectacular displays, once the skies cleared.
The highlight was Paul Bennet’s Grumman
Avengerwithanumberoftree-toppasses.
Doug Hamilton ‘rock and rolled’ in his P-
40NWarhawk,whileChrisGodfreymade
his airshow circuit debut in his recently re-


furbished T-28 Trojan. Other historic dis-
playsincludedDaveMarshall’sTransavia
Pup, locally based SF-260 jet and O-1G Bird-
dog. Several formation displays included a
vintagetrioofTigerMoth,Auster,andRyan
PT-22, as well as Yak-52s, an RAAF Muse-
um-led CT-4 and Winjeel display and RV-6 &
Starlets, plus the RAAF Roulettes with an
unusualsolofollowedbyafouraircraftfor-
mation. A water-bombing demonstration by
an AT802 was an amazing sight, as were
Paul Bennet and Chris Sperou performing
their stunning aerobatics in a Wolf Pitts Pro
andS1-11Brespectively.Here’shoping
Kyneton’s Airshow becomes a regular event.
