Notes

On 4 July Embraer delivered the first
Phenom 100 to Affinity Flight Training
Services, which is providing multi-engine
pilot training as part of the Ministry of
Defence’s Military Flying Training System
(UKMFTS) programme. The MoD has ordered
five Phenom 100s and services support, with
an option for follow-on aircraft. The Fixed
Wing programme is intended to replace the
Elementary, Multi-Engine and Basic Flying
Training with a fully-integrated solution
employing state-of-the-art aircraft, ground-
based training devices and courseware all
developed by Ascent Flight Training, the
UKMFTS training service provider.
The Sea Cadet Aviation Team
completed its second course of the year as
guests of Portsmouth Naval Gliding Club
at Lee-on-Solent. During initially rainy
days, the ten cadets updated their ground
school theory and prepared for their final
exams. Better weather over the next four
days allowed all ten to make three air
experience flights with pilots Lt (SCC) John
Reeve RNR and CPO (SCC) Carl Mason,
with first flights taking off around 0630
and the last ending just before sunset. The
cadets were able to put their navigation
theory into practice as they flew several
routes over the Isle of Wight and the

Solent and tried their hand at R/T in the
circuit. All the cadets passed and gained
their Silver Wings.
Qatar Aeronautical College (QAC) has
contracted Diamond Aircraft Industries to
provide fourteen training aircraft and two
simulators for its Doha headquarters: ten
DA40 NGs, four DA42-VI twins and two

FNPT II flight simulators. The first aircraft
will be delivered at the end of November.
Finnish flight training operator Patria
has ordered four DA40 NGs, a DA42-VI
twin and two DA42-VI FNPT II simulators.
They are based at Patria’s new training
centre in Tampere-Pirkkala, to which it
moved from Helsinki–Malmi in May.
