Ka-226Ts to be built in India

MD600N goes all-glass

Relentless progress

Russian Helicopters and India’s Hindustan
Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have
established a joint venture for production
of the Ka-226T light helicopter in India. Up
to 200, and not less than 140 Ka-226Ts
will be assembled there, with an annual

target of 35 once production ramps up.
HAL also plans to assemble the KA-226T’s
Arrius 2G1 turboshafts following an
agreement signed last year with engine
manufacturer Safran to undertake
maintenance on the powerplants.

MD Helicopters Inc has completed all FAA Type Inspection
Authorization requirements for certification of its first all-glass
cockpit for the MD 600N and expects final approval before the
end of summer. This is the first of the company’s four single-
engine models to feature the Block 1 cockpit upgrade that has
been developed in conjunction with Aspen Avionics and Howell
Instruments. The new cockpit includes a Howell Instruments EFIS,
Garmin G500 PFD/MFD, Garmin GTN 650 touch-screen NAV/COM/
GPS, and L-3 ESI 500 Electronic Standby Instrument. MDHI’s 369FF,
520N and 369E models are expected to gain all-glass cockpit
approval within the next twelve months.

Bell Helicopter has resumed flight-testing
of its Model 525 Relentless after the
grounding that followed the July 2016 fatal
crash of the second prototype. The
Relentless is the world’s first fly-by-wire
commercial helicopter and its Garmin
G5000H avionics fit is the first fully
integrated touchscreen avionics suite
designed specifically for helicopters. The
FAA renewed the helicopter’s Experimental
category certificate of airworthiness
after extensive investigation of the
accident in conjunction with the
National Transportation Safety Board and
the manufacturer.
“We have resumed a key element of the
Bell 525 programme,” said Bell President
and Chief Executive Officer Mitch Snyder,
“and we are confident in the resumption of
flight test activity. The team is focused on
certification in 2018 and we are committed
to bringing this innovative and high-
performing helicopter to market.”

The new helicopters will operate in Basrah
