Samsung’s microSD cards

record 16 years of footage

S

amsung has released a
new range of PRO
Endurance microSD cards that
can record up to 16 years
(140,160 hours) of continuous
footage, making it suitable for
many different types of camera
devices, including surveillance
cameras, dashboard cameras
and doorbell cameras.
This length of footage is
available on the 256GB edition
of the card, which CCL is
selling for £46.56 (www.
snipca.com/41866). It also
comes in 32GB, 64GB and
128GB versions, priced £8.94,

£12.90 and £21.45 on CCL’s
site respectively.
Samsung says that the
longevity is made possible
by the cards’ NAND memory,
and is 33 times longer than its
EVO Plus range of cards.
It added the cards are
“uniquely designed to meet
the rigorous demands” of
cameras that continuously
record, claiming they’re
both ‘wearout-proof’ and
‘drop-proof’, as well as
being resistant to water,
magnets, X-rays and
extreme temperatures like

previous cards.
Each card offers read speeds
of up to 100MB/s. The 128GB
and 256GB cards have write
speeds up to 100MB/s, while
the smaller cards write up to
30MB/s. They all measure
1x11x15mm (height x width x
depth). Videos can be played
back in Full HD and 4K.

APP ‘COMING SOON’
A version of Thunderbird for
phones is “coming soon”,
according to its product
and business development
manager Ryan Lee Sipes. He
tweeted the news on 2 May
(www.snipca.com/41857),
adding that it was his second
priority after fixing the
email client’s user interface.
Currently, Thunderbird works
on computers only.

APPLE MAKING OLD
iPADS OBSOLETE
Apple has added the iPad Air
2 and iPad Mini 2 (pictured) to
its list of ‘vintage’ products,
which means it may be hard
to find spare
parts for
them. It labels
products
as vintage
between five
and seven
years after
it stopped
selling them.
After seven years, products
become ‘obsolete’ and Apple
ends all support. The iPad
Mini 2 launched in November
2013, with the Air 2 following
a year later. Visit Apple’s
site for details: http://www.snipca.

ZEN INTERNET SCRAPS
FIXED-PRICE DEALS
Zen Internet is scrapping its
promise to fix prices for as
long as you stay on the same
package. It will end the ‘Price
for Life’ guarantee for new
customers on 1 June, saying
it’s necessary to “deliver a
consistently high level of
service to our customers”.
The move doesn’t affect
existing customers. Read
Zen’s updated terms and
conditions at http://www.snipca.

A

mazon’s Fire TV Cube
(pictured) has become the
first streaming device capable
of sending audio directly to a
hearing aid, letting wearers
listen privately without
disturbing others.
It works with all content
available on the Cube,
including streaming services,
apps, games and Amazon’s
Alexa voice assistant.
It uses a system called Audio
Streaming for Hearing Aids
(ASHA), and works only with
compatible hearing aids made
by UK firm Starkey (www.
starkey.co.uk), including the
brand Audibel which it owns
(see box below).
To use it, you have to pair
your hearing aid through

holding down the Home
button and selecting
‘Disconnect Hearing Aids’.
Amazon recommends
connecting over a 5GHz
Wi-Fi network, within 10
feet of the Cube, and with a
direct line of sight. It does
work over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, but
the range might be reduced
if many other devices are
connected.
For now it works only on
the 2nd generation of the
Cube (£110 from http://www.snipca.
com/41872), but Amazon said
it will bring ASHA to more
Fire TV devices over time.

Bluetooth, just as you would
when pairing headphones:
open Fire TV Settings, then
select Accessibility followed
by Hearing Aids.
You control volume using
the Fire TV remote control,
and disconnect them by
