reddish brown by Revell,
and smoke stains were
airbrushed softly with a
dark brown diluted mist of
Tamiya’s smoke. I painted
the spinner hub pure white
to make a contrast with the
rest of the airframe, while the
propeller blades were green
and heavily weathered.

FINAL STAGE
I now added the last bits,
including the beautifully
detailed undercarriage and
the wing lights. The clear
part was slightly larger than
the hole it fits into, so armed
with my X-acto knife I started
thinning it down; but then I
managed to accidently remove
it, feeding the carpet monster
and it has never been seen
again. What to do now?
I cut a thick section of
stretched sprue of about 1.5
mm to 2 mm in diameter,
which I attached into the hole

on the wing edge, painting
it black with the front facing
part painted silver to mimic
the lamp. Once this was solidly
attached in place I used a
two-part epoxy clear epoxy
glue (Araldite) and shaped it
with a wet finger to follow
the wing profile. The result
looks quite good and was
easy to make, but one word
of warning – it only works
on small scales because the
glue is not 100% transparent.

MARKINGS AND
DECALS
The kit provides decals for
eight versions, mostly with
white camouflage. Only two
options have the green/dark
green camouflage. All versions
are quite sparse on markings,
with only red stars and a few
numbers. I chose a plane flown
by Russian ace Kuznetzov,
because I liked the green
patch with the kill markings.

The decals worked superbly
well; they were thin, in
register, and with good colour
density. They didn ́t require
any setting solution, and no
silvering appeared anywhere.
I really liked these
decals and would rate
them 10 out of 10.

CONCLUSION
This was an enjoyable kit. It
fits together really well and
has nice detail and some
attractive schemes. Its only
negatives are the lack of side
consoles on the cockpit and
the multi-part cockpit floor.
I have no doubt in
recommending it as a first
short-run experience. Anyone
with a few kits under the wing
can easily build the Brengun
Yak with no worries.
My thanks to Brengun
for the review sample.
