(^) Russia's the static display^ lineonupKubinka,included^ some^ really^ interesting^ Focusing ‐ (^) atand rare aircraft, from^ trainers^ to^ all^ types^ of^ Flankers^ as^ well^ as^ timesbombers, ASW aircraft and others.^ Indeed,^ the^ long^ row^ of^ aircraft^ was^ impres‐ aircraftincluding the rarely seen Beriev^ A‐^50 AWACS^ sive,^ painted^ in^ the^ Rus‐ sian grey color scheme.
topublic^ was^ only^ allowed^ The^ tour^ about^ one^ third^ of
the^ long^ taxiway^ that^ runs parallel^ to^ the^ only^ runway
tothe^ air^ base.^ Inaccessible^ at^ the^ public^ but^ still^ visible
were^ (4)^ An‐30s^ Open^ Skies^ as well^ as^ a^ lot^ of^ MiG‐^29
toSu‐27/30s^ belonging^ and^ the^ country's^ national^ aerobatic
teams.^ Also^ in^ the^ line up^ were^ two^ Ilyushin^ Il‐
aircraftELINT^ (Electronic^ Intelligence)^20 and^ a^ good^ number
of^ helicopters^ and^ fast^ jets that^ were^ part^ of^ the^
the (^) programme fordisplay week.^ flying The flying display programme^ was^ rather^ disjointed^ and
notof^ helped^ by^ lack^ commentary^ in^ English,^ there^
couldlittle^ non‐Russian^ visitors^ was^ do^ to^ follow^ the^ sequence
oftime^ events.^ Most^ of^ the^ it^ was^ hearing^ a^ jet^
down^ the^ runway^ androaringscrambling^ to^ get^ a^ decent
pictureabout^ of^ whatever^ was^ to^ take^ off.^ There^
unconnectedalso^ some^ flying^ was^ with^ the^ display^ at
Kubinka,went^ mainly^ helicopters^ that^ up^ to^ do^ live‐
Alabinodemonstration^ at^ the^ firing^ target^ range,^ to^ the
Eastclose^ of^ Kubinka^ and^ enough^ that^ most^ perform‐
performingcould^ be^ seen^ ers^ from^ Kubinka^ itself.^ Regardless,
itvisit^ was^ worth^ the^ to^ see^ modern^ Russian^
airpower.^
