Airport Facilities
The passenger terminal, which is
shaped like a giant ‘T’, is an impressive
sight, particularly the main check-in
hall, with its arrangement of counters
in long islands. The Welcome Garden
on the ground floor is a drop-off and
pick-up area for tour buses and taxis.
The arrivals lounge is on the next level,
with separate areas for domestic and
international travellers, where car-
rental desks, a tourist information
centre, money exchange facilities and
other service providers are situated.
The main departure hall is on the
third floor and is the most spectacular
part of the building, with lots of
natural daylight and a specially con-
structed roof. There are eight check-in
areas, five for international and three
for domestic flights while passen-
gers are directed through two secu-
rity checkpoints to their boarding
zones. Both the departure and arrivals
area are linked to the Access Plaza by
pedestrian walkways.

The Access Plaza is an atrium from
where trains, buses and taxis depart
and there is also a walkway to a nearby
ferry pier with a high-speed boat
service to the city of Tsu, on the other
side of Ise Bay. The Centrair Hotel is
opposite the terminal and the Toyoko
Inn and Comfort Hotel, are both a
short walk away.
The terminal looks impeccable and is
extremely well cared for. Most
aircraft use jet-bridges and only the
occasional flights use remote parking
stands, these being mostly domestic
services with passengers being taken
by bus to the aircraft’s steps. As is the
case at most Japanese airports, the
domestic departure lounge has little to
offer in terms of cafés, restaurants or
shops. Most passengers tend to arrive
around half an hour before their flight
and, with the usual super-efficiency of
Japanese airports, they can usually
check in, walk through security in
under a minute and be at the gate for
boarding 15 minutes before departure
- which will be on time.
The international departure lounge
has more to offer passengers, with
more shops and cafés. On the top floor
of the terminal, which can be reached
from the main departure hall via an
escalator, there is a large shopping area
designed to look like an old Japanese
village. Shops set up in little houses
sell a broad range of goods from
exquisite stationery to Pokémon char-
acters, umbrellas and clothes. There
The observation deck,
branded the Sky Deck
is said to be one of
the world’s finest for
visitors and aircraft
enthusiasts.
