At least three of Chad’s Air Force AS550C2 Fennecs, possibly

more, were extensively damaged (and possibly written off)

when gale-force winds and torrential rain struck N’Djamena

Airport, overturning and breaking the tail booms off at least

two of them, while the cockpit of another was smashed.

Photos show that also substantially damaged were MiG-29

TT-OAP, Su-25 TT-QAI, Su-25UB TT-QAM and a PC-12 (pre-

sumably TT-AAF, the only one known to be in service), which

were in light weight shelters that were torn apart by the

gales. Further details are unconfirmed, but local sources

reported that almost all of the small Chadian Air Force fleet

was damaged to some extent, with only one transport, an

An-26, plus the Presidential aircraft, escaping unscathed. In

addition three French Air Force aircraft, a C-135FR and two

CN235s, were also reported to have sustained some damage.

Gale-force winds and torrential rain struck N’Djamena Airport on 1 July 2017, wrecking and damaging a good portion of Chad Air Force’s fleet

of helicopters, fighters and even a government PC-12. Su-25 TT-OAI (pictured here by an anonymous sender in 2009 in Chad) was one of the

substantially damaged fighters.
