By the end of March 2017, the Cabinet Committee on Security
(CCS) approved the purchase of 32 Dhruv Mk.III Advanced
Light Helicopters to boost the maritime capabilities of the
Indian Navy and Coast Guard. Both Armed Forces will receive
sixteen helicopters each.

Rumours have been going around for a little while, but India
started discreet negotiations with France on the purchase of
31 Jaguar fighter aircraft. If the deal goes ahead, the aircraft
will most presumably be used for spares. We do not believe
the aircraft will see a new operational life.
On 27 June 2017, the US State Department approved the pos-
sible sale of the last white tail Boeing C-17A Globemaster III.
The aircraft, registration N272ZD and FMS 14-0003, was first
noted in August 2014 and flown to Kelly AFB (TX) in Novem-
ber 2015 for storage. The intended delivery date is unknown
to us at this moment.
In the next round of re-numbering aircraft we see the
Il-76MD Candid transport aircraft. Noted at Moscow-Zhuk-
ovsky was KI2664, which is former K2664. It seems that most
if not all Air Force aircraft serials will change from one letter
to two letters and then three or four digits. This new system
emerged first with the latest variant of the Mi-17 that were
newly delivered, but registered in the ZP5xxx range. At the
start of 2017, the earlier Air Force Dhruv helicopters were
noted re-registered from J4xxx to ZD4xxx.

Nice to see the first Indian Navy Kiran Mk1A active again,
but now with the Air Force’s Flying Training School (FTS) at
Hakimpet AFS. The Kiran still sports Navy markings and Navy
serial.

Indian Navy Kiran jet training aircraft seem to be transferred
to the Air Force. The first Navy Kiran was noted at Hakimpet
AFS flying with the Flying Training School (FTS).

Japan
It was brought to our attention that the C-2s at Miho are still
part of the 403 Flight Team (we do not know the Japanese
unit designation) and it will be renamed 403 Hikotai by Sep-
tember 2018.
The Japan Coast Guard ordered another three H225s, planned
delivery of the ninth helicopter is in February 2020. Five heli-
copters are already operational and the sixth will be deliv-
ered in 2018.
As can be seen below, there are considerably more JASDF
updates than normal but this is because we checked all
fighters and T-4s with a last note date of December 2016
and earlier. Some real updates were found and the rest are
presented with the note ‘to other unit/IRAN?’ as we think
it is odd they were not photographed or reported in the last
seven months.
