Aeromexico is in buoyant mood after a record-breaking 2017.

But as Airliner World’s James Ronayne found out, its plans

don’t stop there.

Ta k i n g Mexico to the World

Aeromexico’s London service is now a
daily connection flown by the carrier’s
Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. It’s a far
cry from its initial offering, when it
connected the UK capital to Mexico
City three times per week with a 767,
which Verhagen admitted was “far from
an ideal product”. The service became
daily last May and the Saturday flight,
which operated at different times to the
other rotations, has been bought in line
to provide a “coherent” timetable.
Verhagen highlighted the carrier’s

“night-night” schedule, which sees the
flight leaving Heathrow at 10.30pm and
arriving in Mexico City at 04.30am, as
a key selling point. Mexico City suffers
from terrible traffic congestion, so the
early morning arrival enables travellers
to get into the city relatively hassle free,
while transit passengers benefit from a
good bank of departures to South and
Central America from 07.00am.
The airline also enjoys good
operational performance in London.
For six of the 12 months in 2017,

Aeromexico was the most punctual
airline using Heathrow.
Despite the push for “internationalisa-
tion”, it is the carrier’s Mexican roots
which Verhagen believes make it
stand out from the competition.
“We all, more or less, fly the
same aircraft but the one thing
that will always make
Aeromexico unique... is we are
a Mexican carrier, therefore,
we have warm Mexican
hospitality.”

Despite the push for
“internationalisation”, it
is the carrier’s Mexican
roots which Verhagen
believes make it stand
out from the competition.
