The ‘combat’ H145M will have
an aerodynamic weapons pod
on each side, with a capacity
of 441lb (200kg). According to
the contract, the RV i PVO will
use domestic weapons – VTI is
working with Airbus to integrate
the M87 machine gun pod (a
licence-manufactured Russian
NSV) of 12.7mm calibre and
80mm S-8 unguided rockets,
series production of which began
this year at the ‘Krušik’ factory
in Valjevo. There is an option
to retrofit the HForce WSO 3
with a multi-sensor imaging
and laser payload – such as
the L3 Wescam MX-15 series

  • and Serbian-made 2T5 anti-
    tank guided missiles (ATGMs)
    with a 3.1-mile (5km) range.
    Serbian H145Ms will have a
    self-defence system including
    four AN/AAR-60 MILDS (missile
    launch detection sensors) and
    two chaff/flare pods. Ballistic
    protection will comprise modular
    HPPE plates, capable of stopping
a round up to 7.62mm calibre.
The pilot seats and the cargo
    cabin will be protected.

The inventory includes 45
SA341H/SA342L Gazelles in three
main versions: the basic model
for liaison and training, the Gama
attack variant and the Hera for
reconnaissance. These are the
survivors of a fleet of 177 Gazelles,
acquired from 1973 to 1991, initially
from the French production line
and later produced under licence
by Yugoslavian industry. The
locally developed Gama is armed
with four 9M14M Maljutka ATGMs
and two 9M32M Strela-2M AAMs.
The RV i PVO plans to keep the
Gazelles in service until the 2030s.
In parallel with certification of
‘Moma Stanojlović’ for Gazelle
maintenance, an upgrade
programme is under way. As well
as a cockpit upgrade, this adds a
multi-sensor gimballed turret above
the cabin, replacing the APX-334
gyro-stabilised sight. New 2T5
ATGMs are planned for integration
and the new Pauk ATGM with
non-line-of-sight (NLOS) homing
is being designed for the Gazelle.
The Pauk has an imaging infrared
seeker and transfers the guidance
signal via a fibre-optic cable. AFM

Serial 12269 heads up a two-ship of Serbia’s original Mi-8T ‘Hips’, which
received the local designation HT-40. These are the only examples of
these helicopters that remain active. Alberto Celsan
