strobe lights are considerably stronger at
1000 Lumens. Due to this high power (0.
Amp for the nav lights and 1.4Amp for the
strobe lights), the units have large inboard
aluminium plate cooling sections, these being
designed to safely dissipate the excess heat
generated.
Of a completely different shape is the 20watt
Power Strobe light, this having a circular
body, complete with extensive cooling fins,
with the LED’s fitted to the top face, these
then being covered (if required) with a sepa-
rate neat moulded clear lens. Available in red,
green or white versions, with light outputs of
450/700/1300 Lumens respectively, the unit
has a diameter of 19mm and length of 32mm
and weighs only 7 grams, drawing a current
of 1.6 Amps.
Note that both types of light are designed to
operate as standard with 2 cell (7.4v) Li-Po

With the nav/strobe light glued into position the lens covers were masked off and secured with a small fillet of silicon.

The fuselage strobe light was fitted behind the canopy, but ahead of the fuselage joint.

The completed wingtip installation of the nav/strobe light unit.
