Radio Control Jet International - April-May 2018

(Tuis.) #1
Another area where we had to add a personal touch was with the
tip tanks: again, we found nothing in the kit or in the wings for the
mounting of the tip tanks to the wings, but we did have a number
of ideas to make them removeable, as the wings are much easier
to pack in the shipping crate if the tip tanks have been removed.
It also makes life much simpler when we transport the model in the car.

Each tip tank has two carbon tubes extending from their inner
face, these slide into a pair of matching carbon tubes glued into
the wing, which are supported by blocks of wood. To keep the tip
tanks firmly attached to the wings, we just added two long screws
that pass through both sets of the carbon tubes.
As you can see, there’s nothing overwhelming to do or develop,
it’s a turbine powered scale model so it’s expected that anyone
assembling this type of model has ample aeromodelling experi-
ence and is very capable of completing the assembly to a good
standard.
In the next article, we’ll cover the electronics and turbine installa-
tion and....the first flights!
