Aeros Expansion
Modular flight training school Aeros
Flight Training has opened a new base
at Doncaster Sheffield Airport. The
South Yorkshire airport offers the full
range of services required for
commercial training, such as radar and
Instrument Landing System approach-
es, enabling Aeros to offer airline pilot
tuition, from a private pilot’s licence to
multi-engine instrument rating.

Nick Dunn, Managing Director at
Aeros, commented: “The next few
months are set to be really exciting
for Aeros as we look to continue the
expansion of our flight training
operations. The new base at
Doncaster Sheffield Airport will play
an important role in strengthening our
current position as the leading modular
flight training school in the UK and will

help us to further develop the high-
quality flight training we offer.”
The new facility opening coincides
with recent consolidation of the
company’s Midlands bases into a
substantial new headquarters at
Coventry Airport. Aeros Wellesbourne
closed earlier this year due to the
airfield’s uncertain future.

Pacific Sky Aviation’s Twin Otter Series
400 full flight simulator (FFS) has
received Level D qualification from two
aviation regulators around the world.
European Aviation Safety Agency
(EASA) and Civil Aviation Administration
of China (CAAC) certification, followed
Transport Canada accreditation which
was achieved in December. Pacific Sky
Aviation is now using the FFS to provide
customised high-altitude training.
Michael Coughlin, CEO of Pacific Sky
Aviation, explained: “Instructors are able
to provide customers with the exact
conditions from operating bases at
altitudes of over 3,000m in order to
evaluate the best approaches and
departures given the terrain and aircraft
performance. In 2017, the Peru Air

Force was the first customer to receive
this training and the results were very
positive. The realism of this simulator
training is quite impressive and will
add to the safety margins of operations
in this type of challenging operating
environment.”
TRU Simulation+Training designed
and built the FFS, complete with
seaplane capabilities which, the
company says, makes it the world’s
first true seaplane trainer.
David Curtis, Viking President & CEO,
said: “Use of the simulator will enhance
pilot proficiency, eliminate the inherent
risk when using aircraft for training, and
increase the overall level of safety for
all Twin Otter Series 400 operators.”

Way man Adds to Fleet

Wayman Aviation Academy has acquired
two diesel-powered Cessna 172s. The
South Florida-based flight training
provider says it was keen to leverage the
benefits of the aircraft, which run on Jet-A
fuel. It says fleet utilisation and availabil-
ity is enhanced by the proven reliability
of compression ignition engines burning

Jet-A, and the reduction of scheduled
maintenance operations, while the
engine also emits less CO² than avgas.
“South Florida is an environmentally
conscious place with miles of beautiful
beaches and the expansive Everglades,”
the company said in a statement
announcing the new acquisitions.

“We need to do our part in the flight
training industry to participate in its
preservation.”
Wayman Aviation Academy is an FAA
Part 141 flight training provider, with
operations at Hollywood North Perry
Airport and Miami-Opa Locka Executive
Airport in Florida.
