FINAL VERDICT

First off the easy bit, standby for a statement of fact: the new-tooled 1:48 Fw 190 kits from Eduard
have sublime detail and fi t great. Now for the more diffi cult bit, are the upgrades worth it? The Barracuda
exhausts an emphatic yes, a cheap, drop in replacement which adds considerable refi nement for low cost.
The BRASSIN cockpit is more subjective; it undoubtedly raises the detail bar but at around £25 (75%
of the cost of the Profi pack Edition) it’s up to you. If you don’t mind masking your own canopies
and have a stash of markings then I would give more thought to a Weekend/Overtrees Edition
when released with the BRASSIN cockpit. You’ve read the article and seen the pictures so
hopefully you’re better able to make that choice. For me, I will return to this kit, and
throw everything available at it..!
Thanks to Eduard for the kits and details used in this feature.

grime and exhaust staining fi nished
off the weathering.

Finishing off
Now to add all of the smaller details.
The undercarriage fi ts really well and
looks the part, you’ll note the late-war
wheel on the A-3 which adds a bit of
interest (okay, I lost one of them!).
These were painted up and given
a light dusting with Ammo’s Airfi eld

Dust pigment.
The canopies came next but I had
to chop off the rear part of the internal
detail to get them to sit correctly. The
BRASSIN internal details are very
nice and this is a visible and thus
noticeable improvement. The fi nal
tasks included adding the aerial from
Uschi van der Rosten elastic thread,
the gun barrels and a BRASSIN pitot

  • and with that, they’re done. ■
