Model Airplane International - June 2018

The control surfaces;
elevators, ailerons and
rudder were all oversprayed
with a very heavily thinned
Sky Grey to give the effect
of fading on the fabric
covered areas.

KIT BUILD

The circular red gun ports
were a head-scratcher for
me. I chose an unorthodox
method, using a cut down
cotton bud dipped in red
acrylic paint to apply the
spots.

The undercarriage legs
were supported with
toothpicks while they dried
to ensure they were at
the correct forward rake.
The undercarriage doors
were very easily fi tted with
positive locations.

Some light chipping was
added around high wear
areas like the wing roots
and gun bay doors using
a small piece of sponge
dipped in Silver paint. This
was then toned down with
some pigments brushed
around the same areas.

Here you can see the
aluminium tubing added
for the wing guns and the
pigments that were brushed
into the tyre treads and
around the undercarriage
doors.

The outside frame of the canopy
was airbrushed silver at the same
time as the fuselage. A quick polish
after the masking was removed
restored the clarity and it was ready
to install.
