1:72 EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON RAF

A

s soon as the 100th Anniversary of the
RAF appeared over the horizon, the world’s
model kit manufacturers must have been
sharpening their collective pencils to see
what they could release to celebrate the
event. One of those companies was Revell who’ve
created a small collection of new kits under the banner
heading of ‘British Legends 1918-2018’, the typhoon
seen here being one of the kits from that collection.
Not new of course, their Typhoon has been around
for a wee while, but that’s not in any way a denigration
of the contents of the box, because this is one of Rev-
ell’s better kits in this scale with high levels of detail, an
accurate outline and a collection of whizz-bangs that
would keep a small air force happy, all supplied for the
modeller to enjoy.
Across the board the detail is fi ne and comprehen-

sive. The cockpit is well-appointed with a multipart
ejection seat, raised detail on the panels and a neat
looking area under the canopy, behind the seat’s head-
rest. Similar points can be made about the incredibly
delicate undercarriage and canopy, the latter as thin
as it is clear. Alternative jet pipes, open and closed,
complete the detail - at least as far as this release is
concerned, most of the underwing stores fi nding their
way into the spares box, only the underfuselage tank
and outboard pylons and missiles being needed here.
As befi ts an anniversary kit release, the box con-
tains a special scheme, in this case, the now famous
GN-A in its retro WWII camoufl age colours. Decals
are well-printed and accurate once more, offering not
only all of the national insignia, but also decals for the
instrument panel and side consoles, and a large col-
lection of stencils.

VERDICT

The Revell Typhoon is a fi ne kit that looks very impressive once complete.
Though this release is essentially there to show off the anniversary markings,
this one can also be used to create a fully-loaded, in-service aircraft as well,
only aftermarket decals and perhaps some additional weapons being needed
to complete the picture. Though this is not the only Typhoon available in this
scale, it is considerably cheaper than its Far-Eastern competition and for that
reason amongst others, its worth its ‘highly recommended tag’. Thanks to
Revell UK for all of the kits reviewed this month. (Spencer Pollard)
