Airbus A380 for Hi Fly
Hi Fly, the Portuguese charter specialist,
has unveiled plans to acquire its first Airbus
A380. The Rolls-Royce Trent 900-powered
jetliner is due to enter service within the next
three months and will be configured in a
three-class, 471-seat, layout. This consists
of 399 in economy, while the upper deck will
feature 12 first and 60 business class seats.

“It’s a very proud moment for Hi Fly,” the
Lisbon-based carrier’s President Paulo Mirpuri
remarked. “The A380 is the largest and most
advanced airliner flying today and certainly the
aircraft of choice for the most discerning air
travellers. This acquisition has been part of our
company’s plans for a while. We are extremely
happy to welcome the first A380 to our fleet.”

The move makes Hi Fly the fourth
European operator of the type, the others
being Air France, British Airways and
Lufthansa.
The super jumbo is expected to be joined
by two new Airbus A330-200s, which are
now in the final assembly stage and will be
delivered in June and July this year.

Special liveries have been applied to an
Etihad Airways’ Airbus A380 and Boeing
777 Freighter to celebrate the Year of Zayed.
Throughout 2018, the United Arab Emirates
is commemorating the 100th birthday of its
founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin
Sultan Al Nahyan.
Tony Douglas, Group Chief Executive
Officer of Etihad Aviation Group, said: “More
than half a century ago, Sheikh Zayed
envisioned Abu Dhabi having a world class
aviation industry and infrastructure. Etihad
Aviation Group is especially honoured, on the
occasion of 100 years since the birth of Sheikh
Zayed, to pay tribute to his vision by promoting
the values he embodied and showcasing the
impact he has had on the UAE as a whole,
and in the aviation industry in particular.”
The airline is working with Emirates Red
Crescent, the Khalifa Foundation and His
Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan
Humanitarian & Scientific Foundation which

carry out philanthropic missions around the
world. The freighter, A6-DDE, will conduct

humanitarian flights for charities throughout
the year.

British Airways received its first A320neo
on April 10. The aircraft, G-TTNA, entered
revenue service five days later and will
initially operate on services from the

carrier’s Heathrow hub to Lisbon, Warsaw
and Budapest. BA has ordered 25
A320neos from the European manufacturer.

Textron Suspends Hemisphere Development
In a statement to investors, Textron
Chairman Scott Donnelly has confirmed
that development of the Cessna Citation
Hemisphere, its new top-of-the-line

business jet, has been suspended due
to delays with the Safran Silvercrest
engine that is intended for the aircraft.
The company intends to wait to see if the

problems with the engine are resolved
but this means the Hemisphere’s target
in-service date of 2019 will be put back.
