MODERNISATIONS

In addition to the various standard upgrades

included in the Euro ghter programme, the

Spanish Air Force, through its armament

and experimentation logistics centre

(CLAEX), is autonomously updating its

Tranche 1 aircraft, to bring them largely up

to Tranches 2 and 3 standards.

All Tranche 2 and 3 have the Phase 1

Enhancements (P1Eb) upgrade, and on

December 22 of last year, Spain received

the  rst two Tranche 3 aircraft con gured

with the P1Eb FW (Further Work) upgrade.

The remaining six are expected to depart

the Getafe factory con gured in the

same manner. The rest of the Tranche

3 aircraft will also receive this upgrade.

The improvements include better human-

machine interface and enhanced air-to-

surface targeting capabilities.

Shortly before the Spanish participation

at Red Flag, CLAEX  nalised P1Eb update
