AeroModeller – June 2018

A

s I write, the building
season should be reaching
its conclusion so again I
have news of some exciting
new projects.

Douglas World Cruiser
Tim Horne has been working hard on this
model since his return from Nijmegen in
November, with the intention of entering
it at the next meeting there. The bare

structure is absolutely stunning, making
use of a Dave Rees-style wing which
incorporates internal geodetics and
sliced ribs. The model is for Open rubber
and spans 30”, which will reduce the
wing loading despite the scale structure.
This is a subject rarely-modelled for
some reason. It is quirky, with some
nice detailing to be done, not to mention
the interesting fuselage markings. The
dihedral is a little low but not a problem

indoors and I have no doubt this will be
a contender.

Albatross CIII
The very pretty Albatross CIII is the latest
model by Dave Putterill. Dave began
this in December and thinks it has taken
a long time, but it seems pretty rapid
progress to me! The origin is the free
AeroModeller plan by John Watters but
Dave has reduced it from the original 40”

This magnifi cent example of the builder ́s art is Tim Horne ́s Douglas World Cruiser. The intricate structure
has paid off; what you see here weighs just over 75g. (Photo by Tim Horne)
