El Bosque (see Attrition, May,
p93), this Cherokee was also
destroyed inside the building.

paddy field between the villages
of Kone Kyun and Myauk Yay
Kyi, Bago region, following a
technical failure shortly after
taking off from Taungoo air
base. The pilot ejected but
died later of his injuries.

Ambouli International Airport,
the aircraft crashed after the
pilot ejected safely. The jet was
embarked aboard the Wasp-
class amphibious assault ship
USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) in support
of Exercise Alligator Dagger.

This helicopter sustained
structural damage upon landing
at an approved exercise landing
zone at Arta Beach, Djibouti.
The crew was unhurt but the
helicopter was left in situ at the
accident site pending further
assessment. It was assigned to
the 26th Marine Expeditionary
Unit on board the USS Iwo Jima
(LHD 7) and was participating
in Exercise Alligator Dagger.

Four marines were killed
when this helicopter crashed
about 15 miles (24km) west of
El Centro, California. It had
departed from the Strategic
Expeditionary Landing Field
at Marine Corps Air Ground
Combat Center Twentynine
Palms, California, to conduct
landings in unimproved zones.
This CH-53E had previously
been involved in a roll-over after
a hard landing near the Barry
M Goldwater Range, Arizona,
on April 5, 2017, while operating
with HMH-361, coded ‘YN-59’- see Attrition, June 2017, p84.

During a night-vision goggle
training exercise as part of
Operation Mare Securio with the
Italian Navy ship Comandante
Borsini, the helicopter crashed
into the Mediterranean Sea
close to the vessel before rolling
over. Four of the five on board
were able to exit the helicopter
safely with only minor injuries. A

During a training exercise
at Tyndall Air Force Base,
Florida, the F-22 experienced
a catastrophic failure in one of
its engines. The aircraft landed
safely at Tyndall and the pilot
was unhurt – it is not known how
much damage was caused to
the Raptor, which was deployed
from the 3rd Wing at Joint Base

during a routine instruction
flight in a training area at Fort
Campbell, Kentucky. Both

after landing at Hassfurt-
Schweinfurt Airfield, Bavaria,
following a flight from Manching,
the main rotors struck the airfield
control tower. Debris from the
rotors and the building hit an
airfield employee on the ground
who then died of his injuries. The

near the village of Kovačica,
25 miles (40km) northeast of
Belgrade. Both crew – who
were test pilots from the Centar

Test Centre) at Batajnica –
