Airsoft International – July 2018

Switching back to the Airsoft version I can say
without a doubt Tokyo Marui have done this
blaster proud and captured the all glorious
features you would expect. Coming in at a lengthy
1040mm and weighing 2000g this shotgun
certainly gives your arms a workout that’s for
sure. Along with the decent spring tension
you can be sure that after a long period of use
you’ll be glad to resort back to your normal and
familiar blasters.
The body is made up of a mix of plastic ABS
and metal - It’s actually very well put together
and is to scale so it does make this an extra long
Skirmish field tool.
The metal external parts include the outer
barrel and chamber plate, metal swivel sling
points and shell ejection port, the rest is plastic.
This for me is where the only problem lies, the
stock is hollow and has a noticeable seam, which
for a product with a mid market price point, you
would expect a little more for your money in
terms of rigidity. The whole stock assembly does
concern me to the point I didn’t dare use the rear
sling attachment point.
The pistol grip is fairly good, but it I think it
could have been improved with a little texturing,
but this can easily be fixed with a wrap or two of
grip tap or stippling if you’re up for it.
Loading the shells is pretty straight forward,
but unlike its real world counterpart you feed the
shot gun with a single shell.
Sitting slightly behind the loading bay is the
trigger setup and just above the trigger guard
where it joins the main body is the safety catch.
Keeping with the aesthetics of the real steel M3
the release button for the loading window is a
small lever located just under the rim of where
the body and trigger mechanism meet and I
missed it the first time round it’s that small.
The Super 90 is a Tri shot replica, that to say
every time you pump and pull the trigger three
rounds leave the barrels.
There are three 297mm internal barrels housed
in the front half of the shotgun that run parallel
with the pump action handle all tightly packaged
in a triangle configuration.
All three barrels have no hop adjustment, but
it’s not really needed as this is an up close and
personal platform that was never designed for
long range engagements.

The air produced from this blaster is pushed
through the three barrels and gives you 90m
per second so roughly 295fps so not too shabby
at all, actually I think that’s fairly impressive
as shotguns go. The actual bb’s are loaded in
a clever way too that stacks them in a triangle
as you load the shooter and only lets the right
amount of rounds up into the inner barrels so
no mis feeds or double stacking causing jams
to worry about. The shells themselves are good
quality too and surprisingly hold 30 bb’s and
I wasn’t expecting that. To say you can shoot
3 bb at a time you’ll be reloading a lot if you
stay with the triple shot option. Staying with
the shells the M3 Super 90 has a hollow second
outer barrel that will hold 3 loaded shells for
nice neat storage however I can expect that
most players could easily forget they are there
and it’s done so neatly and a nice tight fitting
end cap is used to keep them in place. You get
the standard pistol type front and rear sights
and from what I’m led to believe you can even
fit a ris rail to the outer barrel. So now let’s
move onto the important bit the pump action
of the M3.This section of the shotgun has kept
as close to the original real world version as
much as they could and have even included the
twist cap at the end of the pump. On the real
life version this twist cap is used to enable fast
semi automatic fire, but does nothing on the
Airsoft version, other than add to the level of
realism that Tokyo Marui have tried to achieve
with this replica.

MY CONCLUSION
The M3 super 90 by Tokyo Marui has been
reproduced to a good standard, the fact that
they have kept all the real world features, where
they could. Even though my short reaching
arms didn’t hamper me using this monster, the
heavy pump spring certainly took its toll.
I had a great deal of fun with it and that’s
how it should be seen, perfect for a pistol and
shotgun game, ideal for a CQB game and perfect
for a back up to mix up your playing style.
With easy operation and easy to transport
around the field as a secondary, I felt I have a
great back up when things get a little tight and
you need something for close encounters.
