Australian F-111 to be moved next year
General Dynamics RF-111C A8-134 is
to be transported from the South
Australian Aviation Museum in
Adelaide to Canberra’s Australian
War Memorial (AWM) next year.
The RF-111C was used by the
RAAF to fl y photo-reconnaissance
sorties over East Timor in October
and November 1999. Six of the
large jets, comprising F-111Cs and
RF-111Cs, were deployed to Tindal
(northern Australia) for potential
missions during a period of tension
within the disputed southeast
Asian territory. Only the RFs were
used operationally, making the
acquisition of A8-134 particularly
signifi cant for the AWM.
With the help of the RAAF, the AWM
has assisted the Adelaide attraction
in securing a suitable replacement

  • an F-111C previously in storage at
    nearby Edinburgh, South Australia.
