  • Two soldiers aboard a Turkish
    Army T129A were killed when the
    helicopter crashed on February 10.
    The ATAK was apparently shot down
    while conducting a combat mission
    against Syrian Kurdish rebels. It
    reportedly came down near Qaddah
    village, in the Afrin district of north-
    western Syria.

  • Both crew aboard an Israeli Air
    Force F-16D ejected safely before
    the  ghter crashed on February 10.
    The aircraft was brought down by
    Syrian anti-aircraft  re. It crashed in
    the Jezreel Valley of northern Israel.

  • An F-5E operated by the Kenya
    Air Force crashed on February 8.
    The pilot ejected safely before the
    aircraft came down near the Ilgwesi
    Conservancy in eastern Kenya.

  • An unidenti ed Tunisian Air
    Force helicopter crashed shortly
    after take-o from a military base in
    Bou cha on February 7. One crew
    member was killed and two others
    seriously injured.

  • A T-50B trainer operated by
    the Republic of Korea Air Force’s
    Black Eagles display team skidded
    o the runway and  ipped onto
    its back during take-o at Changi
    International Airport, Singapore on
    February 6. The mishap occurred


while the team was conducting a
display during the Singapore Air
Show. A post-crash  re was quickly
extinguished. The pilot of display
aircraft number 6 escaped with
minor injuries.


  • The pilot and gunner aboard
    Japan Ground Self-Defense Force
    AH-64D serial 74502 were killed
    when the helicopter crashed in the
    south-western prefecture of Saga
    on February 5. The helicopter, which
    had been assigned to the 3rd Anti-
    tank Helicopter Squadron at Camp
    Metaburu, apparently struck a house
    when it went down in a residential
    area of Kanzaki.

  • A Falcon 7X being used by
    French President Emmanuel Macron
    was damaged in a ground mishap
    while taxiing at Saint-Louis Airport
    in Senegal on February 3. The
    French leader was apparently  own
    to Dakar aboard the Senegalese
    president’s A319, while the level of
    damage to the Falcon’s horizontal
    stabilizer was determined.

  • Su-25SM RF-95486 (c/n 10393)
    operated by the Russian Air Force
    was shot down near Sarakeeb in
    Syria’s Idlib province on February



  1. The pilot reportedly ejected but
    landed in an area controlled by the
    Al-Nusra terrorist group and was


killed by militants on the ground.
The aircraft was apparently brought
down by man-portable air-defense
system (MANPADS).


  • T-41D serial 603 (R172-0395)
    operated by the Uruguayan Air
    Force ditched in the Atlantic Ocean,
    close to Mansa Beach, following an
    apparent engine failure in Punta del
    Este, Uruguay on February 2. Three
    crew were rescued.

  • Two French Army Aviation
    SA342M helicopters crashed
    following a mid-air collision in
    south-eastern France on February



  1. Five soldiers were killed in the
    mishap, which occurred south of
    Lake Carcès near Brignoles in the
    Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
    The Gazelles and personnel were
    assigned to the Army School of
    Light Aviation.



  • An aircraft, believed to be a
    Shaanxi Y8GX3 command,
    control, communications and
    intelligence C3I) platform, operated
    by China’s People’s Liberation Army
    Air Force was destroyed when it
    impacted terrain near Zhengchang,
    in China’s south-western Guizhou
    Province, on January 29. The aircraft
    reportedly carried a  ight crew of
     ve and seven military personnel
    and there were no survivors.

  • EA-18G serial A46-311 (BuNo
    169158), operated by the Royal
    Australian Air Force’s No 6
    Squadron, was heavily damaged
    after su ering an apparent engine
    failure that resulted in an aborted


take-o on January 27. The pilot and
electronic warfare o cer egressed
safely on the ground, but the aircraft
su ered signi cant damage that
resulted from a  re following the
emergency. The Growler was one of
four deployed to Nellis AFB, Nevada,
for a ‘Red Flag’ exercise.


  • Two US Army soldiers were
    killed when their AH-64E crashed
    during a night-time training mission
    at the National Training Center at
    Fort Irwin, California, on January



  1. The helicopter and crew had
    been assigned to the 4th Infantry
    Division’s 4th battalion, 4th Aviation
    Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado.



  • CN235M-100 serial 98-148 (c/n
    C-148) operated by the Turkish
    Air Force crashed near Hodulluca
    Mevkii in the Yalvaç district of
    Turkey’s southern Isparta province
    on January 17. The three-person
    crew was killed when the transport
    impacted a snow-covered hillside in
    rain and heavy fog.

  • Mi-17-1V serial EJC3380
    (c/n 170M06) operated by the
    Colombian Army crashed near
    Segovia in the northern Antioquia
    province on January 16. Four crew
    and six passengers, including four
    soldiers and two civilians, were killed
    when the helicopter went down in
    bad weather.

  • An An-2 operated by the
    Kazakhstan Air Force crashed
    during take-o at near Zhetygen
    air base on January 16. No serious
    injuries were reported in the mishap.


THE LATEST TWO Euro ghter
Typhoons for the Royal Air Force
of Oman (RAFO) recently passed
through Luqa in Malta and RAF
Akrotiri in Cyprus on delivery to
the Gulf state. The jets, serials 215
(NS006, ZR406) and 216 (NS007,
ZR407), bring the total RAFO
deliveries to date to 10, from an
order for 12 aircraft — three twin-

seaters and nine single-seaters.
The two aircraft had completed
their maiden  ights on August
22 and September 7 last year,
respectively.
The Sultanate of Oman
announced its decision to
purchase 12 Typhoons along with
eight Hawk Mk166 advanced jet
trainers in December 2012.

Single-seat Typhoon serial 216
(NS007, ZR407) is one of the
latest pair of jets to be delivered
