JAPANESE ADVANCED
HAWKEYE FLIES
THE FIRST E2D for the Japan
Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF)
conducted its maiden ight at
Northrop Grumman’s aircraft
integration center of excellence in
St Augustine, Florida on October 9.
The JASDF has ordered two E-2Ds
that will be delivered in 2018.

INDIA SEEKS ISR AIRCRAFT
INDIA IS MOVING forward with
plans to acquire two intelligence,
surveillance, target acquisition and
reconnaissance aircraft from Raytheon
under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS)
program at a cost of around $1 billion.
The move was con rmed when a
formal letter of request was sent to the
US Department of Defense in October.
The aircraft will reportedly be similar
to the Royal Air Force’s Sentinel R1.

FINAL EC135 DELIVERED
TO AUSTRALIA
THE FINAL AIRBUS Helicopters
EC135T2+ training helicopter for
the Helicopter Aircrew Training
System (HATS) project was recently
delivered to Boeing in Australia.
The helicopters are being used to
train Royal Australian Navy and
Australian Army students at HMAS
Albatross under a project that is
managed by Boeing Australia.
Although the last helicopters for the
project were produced in November
2016, the nal aircraft was retained
in Germany where it received a
prototype air conditioning system
that will be tted to the rest of the
EC135s. The eet has already own
more than 1,200 hours in Australia
and rst-of-class ight trials were
recently conducted aboard the
multi-role aviation-training vessel
MV Sycamore. In addition, the rst
conversion training course for
Boeing and Australian Defence
Force (ADF) instructors has been
completed and training of the pilot
and aircrew instructors is well under
