ACTICAL ELECTRONIC WARFARE

Squadron Three Four (VAQ-34)
‘Flashbacks’ was established in
March 1983 as a response to a
requirement for a dedicated west
coast electronic warfare capability
to provide support for Fleet electronic warfare
training. The squadron’s primary mission was to
operate in an adversary role in support of Fleet
exercises.
At its height the squadron operated six EA-7L
Corsairs plus four ERA-3B and one KA-3B Skywarrior
from Point Mugu, California. The EA-7Ls were
modified TA-7Cs that received mission equipment at
Point Mugu to enable them to create a realistic air-
launched missile threat scenario.
