This aircraft crashed in unknown
circumstances near the Jordanian
border, 62 miles (100km) from
Tabuk, during a routine training
mission. Both crew were killed.

During a sortie from Magway
air base, the jet crashed into
a telecommunications tower
near Sar Puk Creek in thick
fog, coming down near the
base. The pilot was killed, along
with a ten-year-old girl on the
ground who was hit by debris.

Just 20 minutes after the above
incident, a second F-7M crashed
in fog into a chilli field near Nat Pin
Su village. The pilot was killed.

After returning from a routine
morning airborne patrol mission,
the helicopter made a hard landing
and rolled onto its side at Wana
Airstrip in the South Waziristan
district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
province. The two pilots, Maj
Adnan and Maj Arsalan, suffered
only minor injuries but the Fennec
was substantially damaged.

Taking part in Exercise Clear Sky
2018, this aircraft crashed near
Ulanov village, between Berdychiv
and Khmilnyk, in the Vinnitsa
region. Both of those on board
were killed – one was California
Air National Guard/144th Fighter
Wing/194th Fighter Squadron
F-15C pilot Lt Col Seth ‘Jethro’
Nehring, who was visiting with
his unit for the exercise; the
other was Col Ivan Nikolayevich
Petrenko, deputy commander
of Eastern Air Command.

This helicopter crashed while
attempting to take off from the
French Navy ship BPC Dixmude in
the North Sea, 70nm off Dunkirk.
Although the crew escaped
unharmed, four sailors on the
flight deck were injured, one
seriously: treated by the onboard
medical and surgical teams, he
was then transferred by a French
Navy Caïman from the base at
Maupertus (Manche) to the military
hospital in Percy, Paris region.

While participating in an exercise
as part of the ‘5+5 Defence’
training initiative, this jet crashed
into the Mediterranean, 87 miles
(140km) from the coast north of
Bizerte. The pilot ejected safely
and was able to get into a life raft
before being rescued – in spite of
bad weather and reduced visibility


  • and taken by a Tunisian Air
    Force helicopter to Sidi Ahmed
    air base for medical treatment.

Following a technical failure this
aircraft crashed in Zhanjiang,

Guangdong Province.
Both pilots were killed.

S: ‘16 Blue’/RF-34122
This jet crashed into the Sea
of Azov during a training flight
near the village of Dolzhanskaya,
Krasnodar territory. The two crew
were killed, and the defence
ministry revealed two days later
that it had confirmed their location


  • a Black Sea Fleet emergency
    rescue vessel being dispatched
    to recover the wreckage.
    The aircraft had taken off from
    Yeysk air base, home of the 859th
    Centre for Combat Application and
    Crew Training for Naval Aviation
    (859th TsBP i PLS MA VMF).

All four crew members were killed
when this helicopter crashed
between Argelia and Balboa
municipalities, Cauca, during a
counter-narcotics operation. The
army identified them as Mayor
Pedro Ignacio Granados Salcedo,
Capitán Edson David Quintero
Sánchez, Sargento Segundo
Ramiro Santos Carvajal and Cabo
Primero Eduardo Ruiz Gutiérrez.

The Black Hawk came down in
adverse weather while returning
to Cantón Militar General José
Hilario López in Popayán after
dropping off some 20 soldiers in
the village of Los Picos in Argelia.

Shortly after take-off from the
USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76),
this helicopter crashed back onto
the flight deck while the carrier
was on routine operations with its
strike group in the Philippine Sea.
Although all four crew members
evacuated safely, 12 personnel on
the flight deck suffered varying
injuries. The most seriously hurt
were taken to hospital in the
Philippines and the others treated
by on-board medical teams.

Hovering over the sea at low
level close to San Felipe, Beja
California, the helicopter began
to spin and lose altitude before
hitting the water in a nose-down
attitude. Eleven of the 12 on
board were rescued, but one is
missing and assumed drowned.
The Mi-17 was on a maritime
surveillance mission over the
Gulf of Santa Clara at the time.

T: Unidentified helicopter
A helicopter, as yet unidentified,
is reported to have crash-landed
in the Kharwar district of Logar
province, Afghanistan, while
carrying out an attack on militant
hideouts in the village of Niyamat.
No casualties were reported but
further details are unknown.
