December 20, 2018.*

Flying, among others,
the T-346A, the 61°
Stormo of the Aeronautica Militare
(Italian Air Force) at Lecce-Galatina stakes
a claim as the most advanced pilot training
school in Western Europe. The new jet has
more in common with the air arm’s Eurofighter
Typhoon and Tornado than the previous-
generation MB-339 trainer and allows
students to get to grips with sophisticated
avionics and systems including radar, targeting
pod, active missiles and data links. In the
forthcoming issue, AFM visits the unit’s base
in Apulia to experience the cutting edge of
lead-in fighter training (LIFT).

*UK scheduled on-sale date. Please note that
overseas deliveries are likely to be after this date.
