aviation - the past, present and future of flight

abundant again this year. Pakistan
and Oman each sent specially marked
C-130s and also of interest was the
Royal Canadian Air Force CH-
Griffon. There were anniversary-liveried
aircraft from the Netherlands (F-16) and
the Belgian Defence - Air Component
(Embraer ERJ 135), among others.

The major RIAT theme was, of course, the
RAF’s centenary. Plenty of representative
types used over the years were in evidence,
with the pick of the bunch being the civilian-
owned and airworthy Hawker Hunter, Gloster
Meteor and Westland Whirlwind.
Most aircraft used by the service today
were in attendance, including a RC-135W

Rivet Joint and Sentinel R1. The best of the
rest in the static included a Brazilian-marked
Embraer KC-390, a US Navy E-6B Mercury
and several transports from Eastern Europe.
