Scale aviation modeller international

(Martin Jones) #1

callout for what shade of red or blue
to use to match the decals! So it is
really a potluck and go with it.
I went with Hataka Traic
Red. Once dry, the red area was
masked of before I applied two
light coats of Tamiya X-2 White on
the fuselage, wings, engines and
tail. When everything had dried
thoroughly I applied an overall
coat of gloss, ready for the decals.
I started with the engines. The
decal provided for the red curved
area on top of the engines itted
fantastically and bedded down
into all the panel lines and rivets

perfectly (with a little
help from Micro Set
and Sol). The fuselage
decal performed as
well and arepossibly one of the
best decals I have worked with,
considering its complex shape and
the curvature it has to it over.
Unfortunately, I immediately
hit a problem with the tail
decals. Decals are provided for
the upper area on each side of
the tail, but they are undersized
and very delicate and so could
not be used. I think this would
also be true for the blue option.
So change of plan, this area
needed painting. I masked of
the white areas before applying
the same red as I had used on

the fuselage. This late change of
plan did lead to a slight issue: the
engines and fuselage were very
slightly diferent shades of red due
to the underlying colour, which
could have been avoided if I had
painted both at the same time
Ebbro supply decals for the
silver streaks that separate the
red and white areas and they
also supply plenty of spares.

FINAL BITS
To inish the model I added the
chrome leading edges and attached
the strangely designed engines
with their pylons above the wing.
Finally, I added the undercarriage,
pitot tubes and landing lights,
and the kit was inished,

CONCLUSION
This was a fun and fantastically
designed kit of an unusual subject.
Private jets in 1/48 are very limited
and I found this kit made a refreshing
change to all the military aircraft I
have been building recently. The
only negative is the price, which
considering the limited number
of parts is a little on the high side
at £59.99! But it was a simple
build with no fit issues at all and
I would recommend it to anyone
who wants to add a 1/48 scale
Honda Jet to their model shelf.
My thanks to Ebbro and
the Hobby Company there UK
Importer for giving me the chance
to build this attractive model.
