Scale aviation modeller international

(John Hannent) #1
kit (or at least that I could find),
and to add to the confusion the
names don’t match the pilots’
names on the painting guide.
I used Tamiya Mark Fit Strong
to help the decals conform to
the surface. This solvent reacted
incredibly well and the decals
fitted down snug and tight to
the surface. After the decals had
dried, I applied another gloss
coat to help seal in the decals,
then while the gloss was drying
I turned my attention to some of
the smaller finishing details.

FINAL STAGE
I started by adding the smaller
support brackets to the main
landing gear legs. The completed
assembly was painted XF-2 Flat
White to match the interior wheel
bays. I was very pleased with how
strongly the landing braces affixed
to the model, but I did run into a
problem with the forward wheel.
When I attached it to the pin, it
was a tight fit, and as a result I split
the wheel, so this is a reminder
to be more careful than I was and
maybe open up the hole slightly.
With the model mostly
completed I added a flat coat of
Army Painter Anti-Shine Matte
Varnish. I was really happy
with how this varnish blended
everything together on the model.
Finally I removed the canopy
masking and gave the canopy a
final polish with Novus 1 plastic
cleaner to finish my model.

CONCLUSION
I would suggest this kit to anyone,
as it has fairly simple construction,
but I would recommend that

anyone building this seriously
consider getting a masking set. This
will make the building experience
go a lot quicker, and I think you’ll
be happier if you didn’t spend
hours masking it like I did.
I can easily see MENG being the
company that we will all get excited
about when they announce a new kit.
Like we do with Tamiya and Airfix. I
really did enjoy watching pieces just
fit perfectly into place, and I can’t
wait to see what MENG has in store
next. This project took a long time
to complete, but I am really pleased
with how the model turned out.
My thanks to HobbyLink
Japan for supplying the review
kit, which can be ordered from
their website at http://www.hlj.com.
