rudder and the tailplane are both
etched steel, so the parts have a flat
rather than the round profile of the
original aircraft. I briefly considered
replacing these with brass from

Albion Alloys, but only briefly!
As I mentioned earlier I was
very keen to see how big this model
would be, so I thought I would
just assemble the lower wing, but

this went so well that I ended up
assembling the basic structure of
all three wings. They all go together
easily, although at this stage I am
yet to add all of the rib caps and the
brass leading edges. With the wings
there has been some compromises
for scale; for example, the trailing
edge is etched steel, as is the rear

spar, but the trailing edge on the
real aircraft was wire and the rear
spar was wood. Ultimately the
plywood ribs are also a little too
thick, but the structure gives the
overall impression and looks good!
The etched-steel elements in
the wing still need to be painted
and the rear spar has to have a
