CMK

T

his month we take a look
at some of the accessories
we received at Eday. CMK
sets often offer something a
little out of the ordinary and
this month is no exception.
The ox with two ground crew
figures will certainly make an
interesting diorama towing a Me
163 across an airfield, definitely
a change from a Kettenkrad.
The real standout set from
CMK this month however, is the
1/32 scale resin Bristol Centaurus
engine for the Special Hobby Mk.II
Tempest. The engine kit has 95
parts cast in bubble free grey resin
and will build into a surprisingly
large engine. Whilst the engine
is designed to hit the Special
Hobby Tempest, it would make an
amazing display piece in its right!

The sets for the Special Hobby
CASA and the Ki-43, will certainly
enhance the detail already in the kits
and the separate control surfaces
make posing them a lot easier!
The jewel in the crown, though,
this month is the Centaurus engine.
This ‘accessory’ is very much a kit

in its own right and will lift your
Tempest to the next level and
beyond. When I look at just how
far resin accessories have come in
the last couple of years or so, I am
constantly amazed at the quality and
how every new release just raises the
bar that little bit higher. If you have

the Tempest Mk.II in your stash or
you just fancy a stand-alone detailed
model of this beast of an engine, then
this set comes highly recommended!
My thanks to CMK/Special Hobby
for supplying these samples, for
further details on these and other
sets visit http://www.cmkkits.com.

atran had already
produced three sets of
F-14A Tomcat exhaust
pipes for the Hasegawa kit
but with the release of the
superb Tamiya kit they have
now released three more sets.
Why three sets? The Tomcat’s
exhaust could be positioned
in three ways when parked,
fully open fully closed, or
the most common with port
pipe closed and the starboard
open which is the set we were
supplied with. Cast in grey
resin you have just three parts
per engine. A representation
of the rear of the engine to
which you add two further brass
parts for the flame holders, the
long exhaust pipe and finally
the exhaust nozzle itself.

CONCLUSION
I really liked this release as
cleaning up the long seam inside
the jet pipe is a job that I truly
hate, it also supplies superior
detail to the kit nozzles as only
resin canm making this a nice
addition to the Tamiya Kit.
Our thanks to Katran for the
review sample and they can be
contacted at katran.model@gmail.
com and you can also purchase
from a number of retailers online.
