he M-24 Hind is nicknamed
Krokodil (“crocodile”) by
its crew, and trials with the
Mi-24P go back to 1975. This was
a more heavily armed derivative
of the Mi-24V, the P standing for
‘”pushechmil”, meaning cannon-
equipped. When the USPU-24 was
deleted, a 30mm GSh-30K double-
barrel 30 mm rapid firing cannon
was fitted on the starboard side of
the nose in an elongated fairing.
The Mi-24P entered production
in 1981 and more than 620 of the
type were built when production
ended in 1989. The Mi-24P was also
