Sierra Hotel

I

t has been a few years

since we caught up with

Sierra Hotel, but at the US

Nationals they passed us some

new items from their range.

To start we have a necessary

upgrade for Academy’s F-22

Raptor in 1/48 scale, when this

kit was released it had an issue

with the shape of the nose and

a noticeably short tail as we as

stabilator’s which are too thin.

The nose was corrected in the

second run of the kit moulds,

but Academy never carried out

any work on the tail. Now Sierra

Hotel has released a complete

set of replacement tail surfaces,

which correct this major error

with a simple and easy to add set.

Moving up to 1/32 scale we

have a detail set that provides

the ECM adaptor that is often

seen in the forward Sparrow

bay of post-Vietnam War F-4

Phantoms and can be used on

either the Revell or Tamiya kit.

CONCLUSION

I have not got a 1/48 scale Academy F-22

but will now be seeking an example

to use the new tail surfaces. Even

though I already have a Hasegawa

example, but have never built it due

to the large amount of raised detail

that needed to be removed. These are

not present on the Academy kit and I

was considering adapting the tails to

fit the Academy kit which would have

been a very expensive conversion!
