of Fame Air Museum’s monthly
Living History Flying Day at Chino,


California on February 3.
Featured speakers at the event were
Charlene Fontaine, executive director of
the Flying Tigers’ 69th Association, and
Col Edward Ernest Feichtinger. After the

speeches, Matt Nightingale of California
Aerofab fl ew a memorable display in
Lulu Belle, which is painted to represent
P-40N 44-2104590, the fi ghter fl own by
World War Two ace Lt Philip Adair of the

89th Fighter Squadron, 80th Fighter

Canadian Hornet’s


Battle of Britain tribute


The Royal Canadian Air Force’s
newest fi ghter squadron has painted
a McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornet in
commemorative colours to celebrate
the service’s heritage.
401 Tactical Fighter Squadron was


reformed as a second operational Hornet
unit at 4 Wing, Cold Lake alongside 409
Squadron in 2015, and one of its fi ghters
now has special markings.
Each side of CF-18 188731’s tail depicts
401 Squadron combat operations,

highlighting both the fi rst and the most
recent. The starboard side features
the Battle of Britain with appropriate
camoufl age pattern, while the port is
adorned with insignia used for 2016’s
Operation Impact in Iraq. The unit fl ew

25 missions in the latter campaign.
Both sides of the tail also feature 401’s

The remains of Lockheed L-749A Constellation
F-BAZS were discovered in February off the
Gulf of Fethiye in the Mediterranean by the
Turkish Navy. The Air France airliner ditched
there on August 3, 1953, after encountering
engine problems. Thirty-eight of the 42
people aboard survived the incident and

Cessna 310J LV-IOI has been transferred
to the training centre at Morón Air Base in
Buenos Aires. Confi scated by authorities
after it was used for drug traffi cking, it
served with the Argentine Air Force as ‘T-12’
before being acquired by Morón’s National
Aeronautics Museum in airworthy condition.
