EVENT FOCUS ROYAL INTERNATIONAL

AIR TATTOO

The world’s largest military airshow acts as the international tribute to

the RAF in its centenary year. It has been building up to this point for

some years now, but in 2018 RIAT becomes a full three-day event for

the first time. The Friday will be a very special occasion, incorporating a

mass flypast of RAF aircraft and a Royal Review of the service – for the

first time since Marham in 1993. Different eras of RAF history will be

depicted in the flying display, acts so far confirmed comprise the Great

War Display Team and the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron’s

Vampire T.55 and FB.6, both painted for the season in RAF markings.

As befits the show, international military participation will form a major

part of RIAT’s RAF salute: the Royal Canadian Air Force is sending its

biggest contingent for years, including its CF-188 demo in the flying

display and static CC-130 Hercules, CC-177 Globemaster III and CP-140

Aurora in the static park. As of writing in early February, many more

aircraft remained to be added.
