Municipal Cemetery.
In addition to the three Bf 109s,
the Hangar 10 German collection
includes a fully restored and
completely authentic Bf 108,
a Fieseler Storch, Bücker Bü
133 Jungmeister and Bü 131
Jungmann. There are Allied types
too, among them a dual-control
TF-51D Mustang, Spitfire PR.XIX,
Yak-9, Stearman, Super Cub,
Tiger Moth and Polikarpov Po-2.

The first post-restoration flight
of Hangar 10’s Bf 109G-12 (coded
D-FMGZ), was at Bremgarten, in
August 2016, when fitted with a
DB605 engine. Since then, AFC
has modified the aircraft to enable
a quick engine change, giving
the opportunity to power it
with either an original DB605
or alternatively, a Rolls-
Royce Merlin 500-45. The

alterations enable everything in
front of the firewall to be swapped
quickly, so the aircraft can be
flown with either unit without
extensive conversion work.
The G-12 has also had its fuel
capacity increased significantly
with the installation of an
additional fuselage tank,
increasing the fuel load by 70 gal
(320 lit). This is more than double
the original amount and ensures
far greater endurance.

That this unique Bf 109 can
be flown with a Merlin engine
provides a more practical and
sustainable
operating
basis.
