team at Rinner Performance
Engines, which had rebuilt and
bench-tested both powerplants to
as-new condition. Michael started
the rebuild of the G-6, Wk Nr
440738, in Austria in 2007, and
completed large parts of the work.
After the substantial rebuild, the
Air Fighter Academy acquired this
G-6 in November 2013 to continue
restoring it to flying condition.
Michael Rinner has become well
known as an expert in Daimler-
Benz V12 powerplants and
has his engine workshop in
Carinthia, Austria.
Klaus and British warbird pilot
Cliff Spink flew together in the
G-12 on April 29-30; Cliff had an
extremely hectic diary and was

only available to do this for two
days, but luckily the weather
co-operated, and the third
phase of flight testing was
successfully completed.
Klaus was more than happy on
learning Cliff would be involved.
He recounted: “I was very
pleased that Volker, the owner,
invited Cliff to join me for some
G-12 flying. Cliff has massive
experience and flew the Bf 109G
‘Black 6’ extensively in the UK,
so he would be the more-than-
perfect choice for my first back-
seat ride.
“After I closed the canopy,
my first impression was that
forward visibility was much
better than anticipated
