Victorious

The annual Victory Show brings military vehicles, re-enactments and breathtaking air displays


to the small village of Cosby in Leicestershire. Jamie Ewan reports


H


eld over the first weekend
of September, the Victory
Show at Cosby presented
a small but scintillating flying
display headlined by several
aircraft from Ultimate Warbird
Flights, the group operated
by Air Leasing of Sywell,
Northamptonshire. The event
is also justly famous for its land

battle re-enactments, usually
enhanced by pyrotechnics, and
vast numbers of vintage and
military vehicles.
Flying in were Republic P-47D
Thunderbolt Nellie, Hawker
Hurricane Mk.I P2902, North
American TF-51D Mustang
Contrary Mary, Supermarine
Spitfires Mk.Vc EE602 and Tr.IX

ML407, plus Hispano HA-1112-M1L
Buchón White 9, which were all
based on the Cosby farm strip
for the weekend. An additional
Buchón, Yellow 7, also participated,
operating from Sywell.
Joining them was Robert
Tyrrell’s North American P-51D
Mustang Miss Helen and a trio
comprising Beechcraft 18-3TM

Expeditor Good Vibrations,
Canadian Car & Foundry-built
T-6 Harvard Dazzling Debs and
a Bücker Bü 181 Bestmann from
nearby Leicestershire Aero Club.
Another highlight for those
visiting on the Sunday was an
appearance from Duxford-based
Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress
Sally B.
