Trophy
This month’s Spotlight examines the hotly
contested Schneider Trophy, the legendary series
of air races staged between 1913 and 1931. The
competition, organised speci cally for seaplanes
and ying boats, acted as a catalyst for progress
in aviation technology, manufacturers constantly
striving to produce faster and more manoeuvrable
machines. The streamlined shape of the Supermarine
contestants, which dominated the last three races,
clearly inspired the design of famous ghters, including
the Spit re.
