E
mbraer has an eye on
one of the most pow-
erful segments of the
business aviation mar-
ket, the super mid-size
jets. The strategy team of the Bra-
zilian manufacturer explains that,
with range increase in relation
to the Legacy family, the recently
certified Praetor 600 becomes an
attractive alternative in this niche,
due to the low operating cost,
mainly for charters that use to fly
with four or less passengers.
The Praetor 600 derives from
the Legacy 500 platform, with the
addition of two ventral tanks, new
winglets and cockpit improve-
ments. Among the novelties in the
command cabin there are vertical
cut radar, ADS-B In, supplying
direction and altitude information
of other traffics to the crew, E2VS
technology, combining synthetic
with infrared vision, providing a
more realistic image of the external
object by means of the Head Up
Display HDU, windshear predic-
tion (10 seconds before the event),
in addition to CPDLC datalink and
KA band high speed internet.
NONSTOP
With four passengers, long-range
cruise LRC operating conditions
and NBAA reserve of 200 nautical
miles, the Praetor 600 was given
the certification of 4,018 nautical
miles range with mid-size speed of
Mach 0.75 in this condition. Ac-
celerating to Mach 0.80, with four
passengers and NBAA reserve, the
aircraft is certified for flying 3,
nautical miles.
With a beautiful wing, without
slat addition, and use of fly-by-
wire technology, the Praetor 600
performs nonstop missions from
Sao Paulo to Miami and from
Recife to Madrid, and at the same
time it is capable of operating in
restricted runways, such as those
of Angra dos Reis and Jacarep-
aguá, both in Rio de Janeiro.
