READER’S DIGEST

Running in the Family
I vividly remember my very first
Reader’s Digest. I was 12 years old
and confined to the sick bay at
boarding school.
My mother had read it for years
but I didn’t think it was a magazine
for 12 year olds who were interested
in teen magazines. But I had run
out of reading material so I thought,
Why not?I was both pleasantly
surprised and a bit annoyed that
I’d never picked one up before.
I’m now 53 and happy to report
that I’ve never missed an issue
since then. Over the years I’ve
recommended the Digest to as
many people as I possibly can.
It is always relevant and current
with word games and brilliant true
stories. I’m also very proud that two
of my children have followed in my
footsteps and read your magazine
religiously. LISA DI SILVIO

A Homeless Man’s Perspective
‘I Used to be Homeless’ (May) is a
raw, confronting article, highlighting
the desperate plight of so many in
our cities. With frightening clarity
the author gives a window into the
daily life of the homeless. Hopefully
this will prompt more practical
expressions of help. EULALIE HOLMAN

Editor’s Note: See our story on
page 36 in the Making a Difference
section about a young schoolboy
determined to do just that.
