Little Women

(Drama, classic, family)

T

his big screen adaptation of Louisa
May Alcott’s beloved 1868 novel
features four of the most famous
sisters in literary history. Aspiring writer
Jo (Saoirse Ronan), Beth (Eliza Scanlen),
Meg (Emma Watson) and Amy (Florence
Pugh) March share an unbreakable bond
through poverty, tragedy, love and fun
as they transform from girls to women.
Set in Massachusetts during the
American Civil War, Jo is employed by
wealthy and gruff Aunt March (Meryl
Streep) as a paid companion yet never
loses her drive to triumph ‘above her
station’ in this wonderful film directed
by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird).

Long Shot
(DVD, Comedy)

G

rab the popcorn
and get ready to
laugh watching
this silly rom-com
loosely set in the world
of US politics. Sparks fly
when glamorous and
conservative US Secretary
of State Charlotte Field
(Charlize Theron) hooks
up with fiery liberal
journalist Fred Flarsky
(Seth Rogen). Turns out
dream girl Charlotte knew
bumbling Fred in their
school days. Although
they are a very unlikely
match, friendship, hilarity
and a goofy courtship
ensues as they bumble
through various political
crises. A great comedic
cast and intentionally
ludicrous moments
round out a sweet
modern romance.
