Jodphur, known as the ‘Blue
City’, is the second largest
city in the Indian state of
Rajasthan. In earlier times,
only members of India’s elite
Brahmin caste were allowed
to blue-wash their houses,
but now everyone is free to
colour their dwellings this
way. Not only does the city’s
historic centre profit from the
beauty of this unique azure
glow, the hue is also said to be
effective at repelling insects.
